73 days til kickoff, Trojan Fans!

Ok, ok, we cheated a bit, but we’re going with (73-1) for 7️⃣2️⃣, to honor Troy great Osi Umenyiora.

An All-American following his senior season in 2002, Umenyiora first rewrote the Troy defensive record books, and then did the same in the National Football League. 

Umenyiora recorded 20.5 tackles for loss during that 2002 season to establish a new single-season school record. The record held true for eight seasons until Jonathan Massaquoi finished the 2010 campaign with 21.5 tackles for loss.

The London, England, native’s senior year at Troy was one of the best in school history as he finished second in the country with 15 sacks, a total which is tied for fifth best in a season in Troy history.

An All-Southland Football League selection in 2000 and All-NCAA DI Independent selection in 2002, Umenyiora ranks second all-time in Troy history with 38.5 tackles for loss behind only DeMarcus Ware.  Umenyiora also ranks eighth in sacks and 16th in tackles.

🔼 Class Acts. A pair of Troy men's and women's golfers were named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team in the at-large category.

Student-athletes must maintain a 3.50 cumulative grade point average and compete in at least 70 percent of their team's competitions to be eligible.
 
Jake Springer and Lee Poppell represented Troy's men's team, while Laura Fangmeyer and Alyssa Mercado represented the women's squad.

Springer, who will move on to the Academic All-American ballot, carries a 3.95 GPA in risk management insurance and helped lead Troy to the NCAA Championship for the first time in program history.

Troy Athletics is welcoming back all letterwinners from across Troy's athletic programs for the football home opener on Saturday, Aug. 30, at Veterans Memorial Stadium. 

All returning letterwinners will be welcomed home with up to four complimentary tickets to the Troy vs. Nicholls game in The Vet, an exclusive pregame tailgate party in Tailgate Terrace and special recognition during the game.
