🏀 A NEW ERA IS HERE
One of the top assistant coaches in the country, Adam Howard has been named the eighth head men's basketball coach in Troy program history.
Howard brings 16 years of coaching experience to Troy and has built a reputation as one of the game's premier offensive minds and an elite recruiter. He was selected to participate in the 2023 and 2024 TopConnect Basketball Symposiums, an annual event featuring many of the nation's top assistant coaches.
📈 STOCK UP
🔼 Starting Fast. A nine-run first inning propelled Troy to a 14-2 run-rule victory over Alabama State at Riddle-Pace Field Tuesday night.
The Trojans brought 15 hitters to the plate in the opening frame, totaling six hits, four walks, and two HBPs to score nine runs, highlighted by a grand slam from second baseman Sean Darnell in the nine-hole.
Darnell led Troy offensively with three walks after his grand slam, while Nolan Book reached base in all four of his plate appearances with three walks and an HBP. Blake Cavill delivered an RBI single in the first and drew a pair of walks, while Jimmy Janicki had three walks and two RBIs, driving a run home on a fielder's choice in the first before a bases-loaded walk in the sixth.
🔼 Special K. After going 10-for-14 last week, Kiley Huffman was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week. She's the second Trojan to earn the honor this season after Makaley Boswell did in late February.
The Alvin, Texas, native has been nothing but consistent at the plate in March but broke out last week. This month, she's logged a hit in 13 out of 16 games. Three multi-hit contests highlighted her performance this week.
🔼 Finishing Strong. Troy men’s golf carded the second-best round on the golf course in Tuesday's final round of the Memphis Intercollegiate, as the Trojans finished fourth in the 11-team field at the Colonial Country Club.
The Trojans picked up wins over teams who have had their number this season, including Tarleton State, Illinois State, Lipscomb, Central Arkansas, ULM and Jacksonville State – Troy was 2-12 combined against those teams prior to this week.
🔼 Heating Up. The Troy women's golf team is playing its best golf of the season when it matters most, as the Trojans finished fourth at the ULM Invitational, its best finish since week two of the fall, in their final tune-up before the Sun Belt Conference Championship.
Three Trojans shot in the red this week after Troy entered the event with six total under-par rounds all year. Manya Saini joined the party on Tuesday as she carded a 1-under 71 thanks to an eagle on the par-5 14th and a birdie on the par-5 16th; it was her first under-par round of the year.
