🔼 Powe Pilin’ It Up. Troy fifth-year safety Justin Powe swept the three national player of the week awards he was eligible for, as he was named the Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the Week, the Jim Thorpe National Defensive Back of the Week and the Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week.
Powe, a native of Mobile, Ala., is the first Trojan to earn Bronko Nagurski National Player of the Week since the award's inception in 2001, and the first to earn Walter Camp National Player of the Week since Montres Kitchens in 2014.
Powe recorded three interceptions – one he returned for a touchdown – two pass break ups and seven tackles in Troy's 24-21 overtime victory, snapping James Madison's 11-game home winning streak. The three interceptions tied Powe for the Troy single-game program record held by Kitchens and several others.
🔼 Grand Opening. Powered by a 16-0 third-quarter run, the Troy women's basketball team opened the season with an 89-78 road win over Kent State on Monday night.
Troy's first-year players led the team with 45 points, 21 rebounds, five assists, three blocks and four steals.
Among the first-year players, Tiauna King shined off the bench with five 3-pointers to finish with a team-high 21 points. She also added six rebounds, four assists and a steal.
Hannah Smith finished her collegiate debut with 12 points, four assists, a team-high seven rebounds, two steals and a block. After a two-year hiatus, Aniya Hubbard returned to the court with Troy's first points of the season. The FAU transfer finished with 17 points and a team-high three blocks.
🔼 Down The Stretch. With only four regular season matches remaining, the Troy volleyball squad hits the road for a two-game trip to Coastal Carolina beginning tomorrow night at 6 p.m.
The Trojans have already secured a spot in the Sun Belt Tournament later this month and looks to lock up a first round bye over the next two weeks.
🔼 Save The Date. The sixth annual Troy Athletics First Pitch Banquet presented by Rick and Shari Smith is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 22, 2027, and will once again be held in Trojan Arena.
The First Pitch Banquet serves as the annual kickoff for the Troy baseball and softball programs. Fans in attendance will have the exclusive opportunity to meet and interact with the players and coaches from both teams.
