🔼 Oh What A Night! Troy Football opened Sun Belt Conference play in impressive fashion on Tuesday night, rolling past Southern Miss 55-34 at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The Trojans set the tone immediately, scoring on all three first-quarter possessions to build a 17-0 lead before taking a commanding 31-7 advantage into halftime.
On the night, Troy piled up 662 yards of total offense, including a dominant 437 yards on the ground—the program’s most rushing yards since 2002. QB Goose Crowder delivered a huge all-around performance, completing 18-of-21 passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for a career-high 145 yards and two more scores.
Jordan Lovett also had a monster night for the Trojans, rushing for a career-high 142 yards and a touchdown, while adding two catches for 53 yards, including a 46-yard touchdown reception from Crowder.
🔼 Raising The Bar. Each and every time on the course, the Troy men’s golf squad continues to raise the bar this fall.
On Tuesday, Lee Poppell fired a 9-under 63, and Troy carded a 16-under 272, both program records, in the final round of the West Bay Collegiate Invitational, hosted by Florida Gulf Coast at the West Bay Course.
The Trojans jumped four spots up the leaderboard into a tie for third place behind its record round, while Poppell became the second Trojan in as many weeks to set a program record after first-year Jack Lowery tied the low mark with an 8-under at the Argent Financial Classic just a week ago.
🔼 On The Horizon. As new Troy men's basketball head coach Adam Howard and his assistants began assembling a roster, it was a fine balancing act of finding not only talented players, but ones who represent the program in the right way.
"To have this many new guys and to have as few problems as we've had on and off the floor, I think speaks to the character of the guys we have in here on our staff and to the guys they were able to recruit and bring in that we want to be around," Howard said.
"As a player and now head coach, you care about your locker room so much, I think you want to put together a team you'd enjoy playing for and with.
"They've hit the ground running and answered every challenge that we've thrown at them. I've been very proud of the character and work capacity that this group has.”
