🔼 Pretty In Pink. While a storm rolled through outside, the Troy volleyball team was creating their own noise inside Trojan Arena with a dominant sweep of visiting ULM, taking home victories of 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-11) and 3-0 (25-18, 26-24, 25-17).
On the weekend, the Trojans piled up 20 aces, including a season-high 12 in Saturday’s sweep of the Warhawks.
Ashlynn Axtell (21) and Kalina Calvillo (19) led the offensive attack for Troy with a combined 40 kills on the weekend.
🔼 Sneak Peek. It may seem like just yesterday that the Troy baseball program was making its historic run to Omaha, but this weekend, the Trojans were back on the field for some fall exhibition work.
Troy wrapped up its fall slate on Sunday, taking on perennial national contender Tennessee in Nashville.
Eleven different arms took the mound for the Trojans, led by Preston Watkins, who was the lone pitcher to work multiple innings. Watkins was spotless across his two frames, fanning three Volunteers. Cooper Ellingworth, J.T. Long, Noah Marschke, and Joseph Taylor also added clean, scoreless outings out of the bullpen.
Troy finished with 10 total hits, highlighted by a perfect 3-for-3 performance from Cooper Williams, who also added a run scored and a walk. On the mound, the Troy pitching staff combined for 13 strikeouts while issuing just two walks.
🔼 Making A Run. Playing amongst the best in the region, Troy men's tennis continued to put on quite a show over the weekend at the ITA Regionals
Leading the way was the duo of Gabriel Garay and Luciano Alcocer, who battled their way into the semifinals of the doubles bracket.
The duo defeated Louisiana's Nikola Kolyachev and David Simeonov 8-5 in the Quarterfinals earlier in the day. During the semifinals, Garay and Alcocer fell 1-6, 5-7 to Alabama's Aleksander Blus and Theo Hegarty.
🔼 Add Another One. With the conference slate ticking down, every point is crucial.
The Troy soccer earned an important road point on Sunday afternoon, playing to a 2-2 draw against Southern Miss.
The win gives Troy seven points in Sun Belt play, good for a five-way tie for eighth place in the conference with four matches to play.
Troy received goals from Irene Torres and Brooke Ogorek, while taking 15 shots, tied for its second-most this season. Taylor Richards was important in goal, making six saves throughout the match.
Today’s Trojan Top Performance, brought to you by Conecuh Sausage, is third-year volleyball standout Ashlynn Axtell, who led the Trojans offensive attack against ULM, piling up 21 kills in Troy’s two victories over the Warhawks. In the series-opening victory on Friday, Axtell tied a career-high with 13 kills.
