🔼 View From The Top. In a battle between two of the Sun Belt's top teams, Troy men's basketball earned a convincing 99-74 victory over Arkansas State on Saturday afternoon.

The win moved Troy to 6-1 in Sun Belt play, marking the program's best conference start through seven games in its Sun Belt history. In addition, the win, paired with Georgia Southern's loss to Coastal Carolina, moved Troy into sole possession of first place in the Sun Belt standings. 

It was a day of standout performances across the roster, highlighted by a career-high 22 points from Jerrell Bellamy. Bellamy was 9-of-11 from the field and added two blocks, while throwing down four dunks. 

Victor Valdes dished out 14 of the Trojans' 25 assists, recording his first career double-double with 17 points. Three other Trojans scored in double figures - Thomas Dowd (24), Cooper Campbell (13), and Cobi Campbell (11). Dowd poured in 19 first-half points and added 10 rebounds to secure his 10th double-double of the season. 

🔼 Lockin’ It Down. If the old adage “defense wins championships” is true, the Troy women’s hoops team showed they are in good shape on Saturday.

In the final Sun Belt Conference regular season matchup with Texas State, the Trojans grinded out a 67-63 victory, marking Troy’s 12th straight win over the Bobcats.

Ashley Baez had seven points and two steals in the final three minutes of the fourth quarter to end with 13 points and four steals, including the final two free throws to secure the victory with four seconds on the clock.

Rachel Leggett led the Trojans with 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting and six free throws. Zay Dyer and Fortuna Ngnawo dominated the post, combining for 24 points, 35 rebounds and a pair of double-doubles. Dyer secured a season-high 18 rebounds with four steals and two blocks, while Ngnawo tied her career-high for the third time with 17 boards.

That’s all that separates former Troy standout Dell Pettus from reaching the Super Bowl.

On Sunday afternoon, the second-year defensive back recorded three tackles in New England’s 28-16 victory over the Houston Texans in the AFC Divisional Round.

Pettus and the Patriots now head to Denver next weekend for the AFC Championship game.
